To help improve media professionalism in Armenia, the Foundation launched a project designed to encourage TV journalists both morally and financially. This took shape in November 2002, when the Foundation sponsored the first annual “Herane” TV journalists Award Contest.
The contest took place in Yerevan’s Moscow Theatre, and was relayed by Armenian national television, so that diasporan Armenians could also follow the proceedings.
The contest mainly introduced individual journalists and TV companies that produced programs reporting on issues of democratic principles, civil society and human rights.
Our experience showed that these competitions did indeed encourage professionalism and ethical standards among journalists. The program continued until 2004.
