Recently Metsamor’s Family and Community NGO hosted a round table to discuss the amendments suggested in the law of alternative care service. The event was organized by “Children’s Protection Network”. In recent years the Armenian government has been revising the strategy of unloading the orphanages and keeping the children in their families. However, to ensure the success of this strategy, “Children’s Protection Network” emphasizes the important role of the daycare centers, which should provide multifunctional services to help the families. These services will strengthen the families and prevent the sending of their children to orphanages. In addition to this, the roundtable discussion stressed the need to develop a support program for the families, to prepare them for uniting with their children who have spent most of their time in orphanages or special institutions. The participants also agreed that similar discussions are important for all organizations and field workers involved in child care, and need to be organized periodically.
The “Family and Community” NGO of Metsamor is a joint program of the Tufenkian Foundation, Armenian Apostolic Church – Armavir Prelacy, WCC Armenia Round Table Foundation, UMCOR and PH International.
