More than 80 guests joined the Women’s Support Center (WSC) for an Awareness and Fundraising Event, hosted by Meline and Greg Toufayan on February 13, 2015 in New Jersey. The main speaker was WSC Director Maro Matosian, who was introduced by Foundation Director Antranig Kasbarian. In his remarks, Kasbarian offered context about Armenia’s society and the transformations it has undergone since independence. Matosian followed with a presentation on WSC and its work to combat domestic violence as well as gender-based inequality in Armenian society. The event was enthusiastically received by those in attendance, and drew coverage from the Armenian Radio Hour of New Jersey. Overall, the event raised more than $15,000 for WSC’s shelter and advocacy efforts.

Another successful event took place on March 28-29 in Boston, where the Armenian International Women’s Association (AIWA) sponsored an original play commemorating the Genocide Centennial entitled “Women of Ararat”. Directed by Judith Boyajian, the play offered a fresh look at remembrance and identity among Genocide survivors and their descendants – mainly women. The weekend performances played to nearly 400 people, and raised over $10,000 to benefit WSC.
