We are happy to announce the hiring of George Tabakyan as Nagorno-Karabagh Program Director. Tabakyan will supervise the Foundation’s programs in Artsakh, focusing on resettlement of strategic border areas.
Originally from Lebanon, George is a founding member in Repat Armenia and an entrepreneur with expertise in community and village development, as well as agricultural research and implementation.
“We are delighted to welcome George to our team in Nagorno-Karabagh,” stated Foundation Executive Director Antranig Kasbarian. “His diverse capabilities should give extra impetus to our work, which covers a mix of activities in construction, agriculture, health care, and other fields, involving local Armenians as well as increasing numbers of Syrian-Armenians who are resettling in Artsakh.”
Tabakyan replaces Mary Matosian, who has served as Tufenkian’s NKR Program Director since 2006. Matosian will now focus her efforts on expanding the Women’s Support Center NGO (WSC), established in Yerevan in 2010 by the Tufenkian Foundation and Armenian International Women’s Association. Since its establishment, WSC has embraced a growing array of activities including services to domestic violence victims including shelter assistance, community and civic education combating gender stereotypes, as well as media campaigns, watchdog activities, and other advocacy promoting women’s rights.
“We thank Mary for all the important work she has done in Artsakh throughout the years overseeing many projects. We are proud of Mary’s accomplishments and believe she will bring the same hard work and professionalism to her full-time efforts on behalf of WSC. We look forward to supporting WSC as it continues to grow and expand and wish Mary continuous success ” added Kasbarian.
