U.S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch visited the Foundation’s Yerevan office last week to discuss the Foundation’s emergency relief efforts. She was accompanied by Ann Hirschey, director of social reform for USAID-Armenia.
Foundation Director Antranig Kasbarian presented some of the direct relief efforts undertaken in response to Armenia’s recent economic crisis. He was assisted by the directors of the Foundations Armenia and Karabagh programs—Margaret Hovhannisyan and Mary Matosian, respectively. They also discussed broader strategies for aiding Armenia’s newly-impoverished in this time of increased vulnerability.
“While direct assistance is a step back from our typical aid model, the severity of the crisis makes this necessary right now,” said Kasbarian. “We appreciate Ambassador Yovanovitch’s concern for those most affected, and hope this will lead to new forms of cooperation.”
