The Tufenkian Foundation together with the Armenian Educational Fund has added a school in the new Arajamough village. This area brought to ruins by war had to be rebuild from zero together with its infrastructure (water, sewage, electricity) so once again Armenians could resettle in their historic lands. Children from two villages attend this school. The school and, indeed, the villages, are in desperate need of books. No village has a library and the population depends solely on the school library. Books are not published in Karabagh and they have to be brought from Armenia – a 6 hour drive.
Anahid Ugurlayan, an avid marathon runner and supporter of the Tufenkian Foundation, ran in the Hamptons Marathon to raise money to help us secure books and educational materials for the Arajamough school.
On Saturday, October 2, 2010, on a gorgeous fall afternoon, Anahid Ugurlayan completed the Hamptons Marathon in just over 5 hours. Her efforts helped raise over $600 to support the Arajamough School Library in Karabagh. The funds were used to procure four boxes of books for the children, both in English and Armenian. We thank all those who supported Anahid and the Tufenkian Foundation.
We continue to accept donations on-line for this effort.
