Clean and Safe Water to Villages

The specialist shows the Fixing of water pipes - Hochants.JPGDuring 2010, the Foundation continued its water projects in the NKR Kashatagh region.  After bringing potable water to Hak village, we extended our work to nearby Hochants, followed by Getap. The Getap project is now in its final stages, as we work together with villagers to build a permanent water basin.

These projects address the poor conditions that now prevail in the region: Due to unsafe and improperly cleansed wells, several villages in Kashatagh were found to be infected by bacteria in their drinking water. For this reason, during 2010 more 30 people were transported to the infectious disease hospital in Stepanakert. Following this epidemic, the infected stream water was sent to laboratories and tested; since then, regional authorities have taken drastic sanitary measures.

Prior to receiving their own water supply, Getap’s villagers had to travel to neighboring infected villages to get their water, even though a clean stream exists only two kilometers away from them. With the establishment of their new water supply, this problem has now been resolved.

Due to our efforts, these three villages –  240 families in all – now enjoy safe and clean water.  We would like to thank Ms. Virginia Davies of New York, NY and Mr. Tigran Kalaydjian of Larnaca, Cyprus for helping us realize these important projects.
